I know nothing about programming and developing so most of what is discussed in this forum is jargon to me, but it looks like it will take some time and very smart coders to work around this rather unhelpful nudge away from 3rd party hacks to develop Magic Lantern to run on the new firmware.
Canon 5d mark iii firmware 1.2.3 update#
The problem now occurs that with the recent Canon firmware update to 1.2.3 they changed something to do with the 'Bootflag' making it difficult for ML to be loaded onto the camera. If you've ever installed Magic Lantern before, you would have seen on the complete screen details of a 'Bootflag' which had been successfully changed to allow ML to run. The results are fantastic, especially for shooting RAW a particular interest of mine.
Canon 5d mark iii firmware 1.2.3 install#
This update is the most recent, and fixed a number of 'phenomenons' which can be found on Canon's site.įrom what I have seen on the vast internet that most creatives using ML on the mark III have rolled back their firmware to 1.1.3, which is the most up to date fw ML can install on. HDMI issues (possibly worse than 113, didn't try yet)įor photo use (raw overlays, ETTR and so on) it should be just fine (that's how I use it).I am very keen to hear from any Canon 5D owners that have successfully loaded Magic Lantern onto their mk III with the firmware version 1.2.3. no brightness/contrast/saturation adjutments (registers changed) no full-screen magic zoom (I never used it anyway, but was nice) fast zebras not working, but can be fixed watch out for corrupted frames (from my limited testing, I'm not fully convinced the issue is fully resolved on 1.2.3 => for serious video use, please consider staying on 1.1.3) unlike most firmware updates which fix minor things, this one changed a LOT, especially on the display side (for example, LiveView is now quad-buffered and most of the display registers were changed). you may install on any card combination you may think of. ML restores itself after formatting the card (man, that komputerbay card is fast!) EosCard is now optional (might be required for 64GB cards or larger didn't try) uninstallation is equally easy (update firmware and follow the instructions) installation is really easy (simply unzip the files on the card, update firmware and you are ready to go) ģ) Copy ML files on the card and run Firmware Update.ġ) Run Firmware Update from your ML card. MLV RAW recording just around the corner, and no doubt many other new features being introduced, I can't wait to see just what other doors upgrading to 1.2.3 opens, as I'm sure there are many! Only time will tell.Ģ) Make sure you are running Canon firmware 1.2.3. But Alex also warns there are still issues with portions of Magic Lantern including the HDMI output in this version, so be cautious and aware!

Canon 5d mark iii firmware 1.2.3 mod#
There are significant updates in this version too, like the elimination of the need to mod the boot flag. It might work for you or it might not (note that my standards are fairly high, so what I call bleeding edge, others may call semi-stable or whatever).
Canon 5d mark iii firmware 1.2.3 software#
Magic Lantern team has a version of their software that should work on Canon EOS 5D Mark III firmware version 1.2.3 (which is the latest version).Īlex stated: "Not alpha, not beta, nor zeta, just a bleeding edge that happens to work for me. Ho visto sul sito di Magic Lantern che è appena uscita una release, la 5D3.123-bleeding-edge.Įssendo fresca fresca non ho trovato molto in Rete. Finalmente sembra che qualcosa si stia muovendo.
